I knew I wanted to be like him, when I was 10!
Listening to Pete Fornatale doing a commercial on WNEW-FM in NY, for the Woodstock Music & Art Fair in 1969.
I never let that dream go and in 1991, I created my own radio show, based in Melbourne, FL., that reflected as closely as possible, the sound & delivery of the original Golden Age of WNEW-FM.
The original name of my show was 'Another Unconventional Sunday Morning' (1991-2001) and was changed to FM Odyssey when it became nationally syndicated after a very successful tribute show to the legendary Laura Nyro.
Through my 25 year journey on the radio, I met and interviewed many of my mentors and teachers. Jonathan Schwartz, Alison Steele, Pete Fornatale, to name a few. I studied them for years.
As the story goes, Pete and I became really good friends for the last 17 years of his life.
I was a guest on his show many times and he was a guest on mine.
Our 5 PM phone calls on Friday from where I was in Florida, to where he was in NY, led to discussions about what was happening in our personal lives, as well as what he was planning for his Mixed Bag show on Saturday and what I was going to do on FM Odyssey, the following morning.
In 2009, Pete was my guest for my 40th Anniversary of Woodstock show, completing the circle that started when I was 10!
This hour long archive from my private FM Odyssey collection, are highlights of a 3 hour show Pete and I did along with my co-producer, Paul Porzio, when Pete came to Florida to help me celebrate my 50th birthday.
The anniversary of Pete's passing is April 26th. (2012) 5 years ago, as of the time of this writing.
He continues to inspire me each week and I am so grateful that stations and listeners like you, have made it possible for FM Odyssey to be heard on Public and Community radio stations all over the country.
Oh! And why doesn't FM Odyssey air on a New York radio station? Because that was a silent and respectful understanding that Pete and I had.
I know you will enjoy this as much as we did, being in the moment. - Fred Migliore 4/25/17
I heard that the new Judy Collins & Ari Hest CD called 'Silver Skies Blue' was nominated for a Grammy!
On October 28th, 2016, Judy Collins spent the day with our fans, celebrating my 25th anniversary of FM Odyssey on WFIT, 89.5 in Melbourne, FL. As well as the MANY other stations from across the country that air us each week.
It culminated with a 'Live' (WITHOUT A NET!!!!) interview that I did with Judy from the stage of the Gleason Performing Arts Center, in front of a live audience, that was broadcast on WFIT & to the world!
I thought we were doing the live interview in one of the studios at WFIT. Imagine my surprise when I was re-directed into this concert hall, only to see 2 seats & a pair of mics up on the stage with our names on it and a whole bunch of people in the seats!
There are so many memories I have made doing this show and Judy always manages to pop up in a lot of them. Here is another one!
Congratulations, Judy on your Grammy nomination with Ari and thanks for being a part of what I do, for all these years!

Sunday, April 26th, marks the 3rd anniversary of losing legendary, New York radio pioneer, Pete Fornatale.
He was a friend and mentor to me and and a driving force behind the birth of my radio show, FM Odyssey. Now in its 24th year.
This is a clip from my 3 hour tribute show that will air on Sunday, April 26th, 2015, from 10 - 1 PM - edt. Go to my home page at the time and click to listen.
I still remember not being able to find Richie anywhere in my house. Then, I happened to look out the sliding glass doors at him bouncing up and down on my kid's trampoline!
After we both chilled for a bit, we spent several hours in the FM Odyssey studios discussing his long and rewarding journey.
I love my gig because I get to ask questions I've always wanted to know.
Like this song, 'Follow', from Richie's 'Mixed Bag' album. I always wanted to know how this beautiful song made it on to that record?
As another anniversary of his passing is upon us, April 22nd, 2013, its nice to have these memories to share with you.
We laughed and laughed every time we spent time together. The organized Virgo and the disorganized Gemini! All we ever had to do, was show up in the same room together and it just started happening.
I think that is what I miss most. Is the endless laughing. It felt so good to laugh with him.
